VTAlerts: A Safety App for VTA Riders
VTAlerts is a safety application specifically designed for the VTA bus and light rail system in Santa Clara County, California. Developed by Elerts Corporation, this free app provides riders with a quick and discreet method to report safety concerns and suspicious activities directly to VTA Security or the police in case of an emergency.
With VTAlerts, riders can easily send pictures, text messages, and locations of suspicious persons or activities to VTA Security, making commuting safer and more comfortable for everyone. The app's home screen offers two convenient options for contacting security. The "Report a Problem" button allows riders to send text or photos directly to VTA Security, with the camera flash automatically disabled to ensure discretion. Riders can select station locations and report categories to assist VTA Security, and they can also choose to send reports anonymously. Even in areas with no cellular connectivity, reports are stored and sent once connectivity is restored. The app is designed to prioritize sending messages before pictures to ensure that VTA Security receives them as quickly as possible.
In addition, VTAlerts features a "Call 911" button that connects customers directly to the police in case of emergencies. The app also includes BOLO (Be On the Look Out) Alerts, which display information from VTA Security about specific persons of interest. For example, if there is a missing person or child, VTAlerts may provide details about their last known location. If riders spot someone matching the description in a BOLO Alert, they are encouraged to immediately call 911 and discreetly send an app report to VTA Security.
Overall, VTAlerts is an essential safety tool for VTA riders, offering a seamless and efficient way to report concerns and ensure a secure commuting experience.
